New stimulus check eligibility in four states.

Millions of Residents Could Be Eligible for a New Stimulus Check

In many states, all it takes is filing your taxes to make you eligible for a new stimulus check. Here are four different states where residents could be eligible for considerable sums of money:

New Mexico

New Mexico residents are set to receive up to $1,000 in tax rebates in June. The rebates are due to a budget surplus, which was achieved by the state due to high oil prices. The checks will be sent out to all taxpayers who filed their 2021 individual income tax. They will be sent out via direct deposit or check. Single filers will receive $500, while married couples filing jointly will receive $1,000.

“Prices for basic necessities continue to be high across the nation. … Our state today is in a fantastic financial position, and it’s important to me that New Mexico’s families are sharing in that success,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) said in a statement in April.

California

California’s Middle Class Tax Refund has benefited roughly 32 million state residents, according to the state’s website, issuing residents up to $1,050. While payments were issued between October 2022 and January 2023, Newsweek reported that 1 million Californians had not activated their debit cards containing the payments, which expire in 2026. To activate the card, call 1-800-240-0223. Eligible residents who have not done so will receive a reminder letter from the state.

Georgia

Georgian residents are eligible for the 2022 Surplus Tax Refund, which will provide up to $500. Residents must have filed their individual income tax returns for 2021 and 2022 by April 18, 2023, or by the extended deadline of Oct. 16 if an extension was granted. Single filers will receive $250, heads of households will receive $375, and married joint filers will receive $500.

Pennsylvania

Eligible Pennsylvania residents will receive up to $650 through the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate. The payments are targeted at impoverished and vulnerable residents of the state. Pennsylvania residents who are 65 or older, widows/widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 and over with an annual income of $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters are eligible. Half of Social Security income is excluded from the income estimate. The deadline was recently extended from June 30, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023.
