Another Dodgers pitcher opposes Pride Night events, citing religious beliefs.

Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Blake Treinen Denounces Team’s Decision to Reinvite Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to Pride Night

“I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins,” Treinen’s said in the statement, posted by Christian singer and friend Sean Feucht. “I believe the word of God is true, and in Galatians 6:7 it says, ‘do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked; a man reaps what he sows.’”

“This group openly mocks Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of my faith, and I want to make it clear that I do not agree with nor support the decision of the Dodger’s to ‘honor’ the Sister’s of Perpetual Indulgence,” Treinen added.

Teammates and Other Players Also Speak Out Against the Decision

Teammate Clayton Kershaw expressed his disapproval, stating, “I don’t agree with making fun of other people’s religions. It has nothing to do with anything other than that. I just don’t think that, no matter what religion you are, you should make fun of somebody else’s religion. So that’s something that I definitely don’t agree with.”

Washington Nationals pitcher Trevor Williams, who is Catholic, also denounced the decision, saying: “To invite and honor a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion, and the religion of over 4 million people in Los Angeles county alone, undermines the values of respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization.”

Conservatives Rally Behind Treinen’s Statement

The statement had garnered more than 17,000 likes as of Thursday morning, with conservatives calling it “excellent” and full of “tremendous courage.”

The Background

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were originally disinvited from the Dodgers’ Pride Night festivities following criticism from several Catholic groups and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) concerning the group’s overt anti-Catholic imagery.

However, the team later reversed its decision and reinvited the group, prompting Treinen and others to speak out against the move.

“My convictions in Jesus Christ will always come first,” Treinen said.
