Jack Smith ready to bring major new charges against Trump if current case fails: Report

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith’s Plan B Could Be Even More Devastating Than Current Indictment Against Former President Donald Trump

According to a new report, special prosecutor Jack Smith has a plan that could have even greater consequences for former President Donald Trump than the current indictment he is facing. The report, cited by The Independent, suggests that the Justice Department is preparing a superseding indictment, which would involve a second set of charges against Trump.

The charges could potentially be brought in the Southern District of Florida, where Trump is already under indictment, or in a different jurisdiction. This development comes after Trump was indicted last month on charges related to mishandling classified information.

The New York Daily News has reported that New Jersey, the location of Trump’s Bedminster golf club, could be a likely venue for the new charges. It is alleged that Trump showed a document he described as classified at the club.

CNN has obtained an audio tape made at Bedminster in which Trump discusses having a classified document related to Iran. However, according to CBS, this document is not included in Trump’s current indictment.

The Independent’s report suggests that U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon, who is considered to be pro-Trump and was appointed by the former president, could play a role in determining whether further charges will be sought and where they will be filed.

The Independent speculates that attorneys who worked with Trump during the legal challenges following the 2020 presidential election could also face charges. It is worth noting that Smith’s appointment as a special prosecutor includes investigating any potential violations of the law related to efforts to interfere with the lawful transfer of power after the 2020 election, according to the Justice Department.

Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump’s attorneys after the election, is mentioned in the report as a potential target. The report states that Giuliani voluntarily met with prosecutors investigating Trump. A representative for Giuliani stated that the meeting was voluntary and conducted professionally, declining further comment.

While Trump is already under indictment, the federal grand jury in Miami that indicted him is still in session, as reported by The New York Times. The Times also mentioned that subpoenas have been issued to individuals connected to the case, but no further details were provided.
