Fort Sill’s commanding general has been removed from duty.

The Top Officer at Fort Sill Base Relieved of Command

The commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Gen. Gary Brito, has made the decision to relieve Maj. Gen. Kenneth Kamper from his position as the commanding general of the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill. This comes as a result of a loss of trust and confidence, according to Army spokeswoman Cynthia Smith.

“While the allegations remain under investigation, it has been determined that Maj. Gen. Kamper’s removal is necessary,” Smith stated.

Maj. Gen. Kamper had been suspended in February following allegations of repeatedly defying hunting rules on the base. These allegations are currently being investigated. Kamper, who had been commander of Fort Sill since February 2020, previously served as deputy commanding general for the III Armored Corps at Fort Cavazos, Texas.

Although Kamper has not yet been reassigned, he remains in the Fort Sill area. In the meantime, Brig. Gen. Shane Morgan, deputy commander of the Fires Center of Excellence, will serve as the interim commander until a replacement is chosen.

Fort Sill: A Strong and Stable Base

Fort Sill, home to approximately 20,000 troops, is a vital military installation. It is where Ukrainian service members trained on the Patriot missile defense system. Despite the leadership change and ongoing investigation, Army spokeswoman Cynthia Smith assures that the operations and missions at Fort Sill will continue without any impact.
