Richard Dreyfuss criticizes Hollywood’s inclusion standards.

Actor Richard Dreyfuss Slams Hollywood’s Woke Inclusion Standards

Richard Dreyfuss, the legendary actor known for his roles in “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” and more, recently spoke out against Hollywood’s new inclusion standards during an interview on PBS’s “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover.”

The Problem with Hollywood’s Inclusion Standards

Hoover brought up the topic of Hollywood’s new inclusion standards, which require films to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Dreyfuss didn’t hold back in his response:

“They make me vomit. Because this is an art form. It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money. But it’s an art. And no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”

Dreyfuss went on to explain that art should be free from the constraints of political correctness and that no one should be telling artists what they can and cannot create. He also criticized the idea of catering to specific minority groups, saying:

“I don’t think that there is a minority or a majority in the country that has to be catered to like that… This is so patronizing. It’s so thoughtless, and treating people like children.”

Art is Art

Dreyfuss also pointed out that Hollywood’s new inclusion standards could limit the types of roles actors can play, saying:

“Am I being told that I will never have a chance to play a black man? Is someone else being told that if they’re not Jewish, they shouldn’t play the Merchant of Venice? Are we crazy? Do we not know that art is art?”

He argued that art should be free from the constraints of identity politics and that actors should be able to play any role they want, regardless of their race or ethnicity.

The Bottom Line

Dreyfuss’s comments highlight the growing divide between Hollywood’s woke culture and those who believe that art should be free from political correctness. While inclusion and diversity are important, they should not come at the expense of artistic freedom.
