Media Ignore Illegal Alien Allegedly Killing 2 Boys With His Car
The Federalist article reports on a South Carolina crash in which a driver, Eri Perez, allegedly drove drunk and killed two young boys who were riding their bikes on a sidewalk. Perez was described as being too intoxicated to stand at the scene and faces two counts of felony DUI resulting in death; the mother of one of the victims witnessed the crash. Authorities say Perez is illegally present in the United States and an immigration detainer has been placed; bond was denied after a hearing.
The piece argues that the tragedy received limited national media attention and characterizes broader concerns about illegal immigration and road safety, citing related incidents and calling for greater media coverage. It references other cases involving illegal-alien suspects and discusses efforts such as a GOP tip line for reporting illegal immigrant truck drivers. The article also includes commentary from Republican lawmakers and media links to related stories.
The article is written by Maisey Jefferson, a staff editor at The Federalist.
An illegal alien allegedly killed two young boys with his car while driving under the influence in South Carolina on Sunday. Days later, the story remains primarily confined to local reports, with very few national outlets highlighting the tragedy. Here are the details you won’t see from the propaganda press.
Eri Perez was reportedly too drunk to stand at the scene of the crash after he allegedly lost control of his car, hitting 12-year-old Dereon James Robinson and 9-year-old Mikhail-Lee Smith “at a high rate of speed.” The two boys were riding their bikes on a sidewalk at the time of the crash and died of their injuries. Authorities charged Perez with two counts of felony DUI resulting in death.
The mother of one of the boys was walking behind them at the time of the crash and witnessed the tragedy, according to reports. She said she “watched [the driver] almost hit me, and I then ran to my son while he bled to death.”
South Carolina Seventh Circuit Solicitor Barry Barnette said Perez confessed that he had been drinking heavily throughout the weekend ahead of the crash, local CBS affiliate WSAW-TV reported. Barnette also “said Perez was so intoxicated at the crash site he couldn’t do a sobriety test, and a trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol had to hold him up.” Perez was denied bond after a hearing on Monday. Local police stated he is illegally present in the U.S., and “an immigration detainer has been placed on him,” Fox News reported — one of the only national outlets to pick up the story.
This is not the first time drivers present in the United States illegally have posed a threat to Americans on the road. The Federalist has reported on 20-year-old Katie Abraham, who was killed last January after another drunk illegal alien slammed his vehicle into the car she was riding in at a stoplight. Julio Cucul-Bol, a Guatemalan national, pled guilty to an aggravated DUI involving death, along with other charges, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison in October.

As The Federalist’s Breccan Thies reported earlier this year, Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., established a tip line where Americans can report illegal alien truck drivers. The tip line came “after numerous illegal aliens who received commercial drivers’ licenses (CDLs) have killed or injured American citizens while operating their vehicles dangerously,” Thies reported.
The incident in South Carolina also comes less than a month after an illegal alien from Venezuela was charged in the murder of 18-year-old college freshman Sheridan Gorman in Illinois. Jose Medina-Medina allegedly shot Gorman in the head while she was taking a nighttime walk to a beach with friends. The group was reportedly trying to “catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.”
Just this week, Judiciary Committee Republicans released documents on X, claiming the Biden administration previously released Medina-Medina from custody “due to lack of space,” even though officials “knew this man was dangerous and had no legitimate asylum claim.”
