White Privilege: Katie Porter Says a Black Woman Should Replace Dianne Feinstein. But She’s Still Running.

Katie Porter, a California congresswoman and Democrat, stated this week that a woman of color should fill the U.S. Senate spot she is running for.

In Interview with NBCPorter asked Gov. Gavin Newsom, D., to keep his promise to appoint a black woman to fill Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D.) seat, if the 89-year-old senator steps down. But the caucasian Democrat took care to note that she is qualified to fill Feinstein’s seat, because she has a track record fighting for black people.

“I have a track record for fighting for the very kinds of issues that make a difference in the lives of Black Americans and Black communities,” According to her, NBC. “Black Americans do not get people helping them with issues like health care, with housing, with being cheated by scam artists, and those are some of the fights I’ve taken on.”

Porter’s comments could soon put her in a bind. The widely anticipated announcement by Barbara Lee (D.), Oakland representative is that she will make her own. bid, This would put Porter against a qualified black woman to fill the vacant Senate seat.

California senators hold their seats for decades. Former Sen. Barbara Boxer was elected to her seat in 2012. Feinstein served for 30 years. Porter, at 49 years old could win in 2024 and block any black woman from holding the office of state president for many years.

Feinstein has not announced her intention to resign, and she has yet confirm that she is not running for the presidency in 2024. The Democratic leadership seems to be rallying behind a white male. Nancy Pelosi (D. Calif., Former House Speaker) stated that she would support Rep. Adam Schiff, D. Calif. (also running for the seat), if Feinstein retires.
