Virginia Democrats roasted over spelling mistakes in redistricting documents
Virginia Democrats filed a fast appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to overturn a Virginia Supreme Court decision that struck down a redistricting referendum. Supporters and opponents alike focused on the filing’s repeated spelling errors-mocking miswritten references such as “Virginia” and “Sentator”-and also additional mistakes in related press materials. The controversy drew widespread criticism and political commentary online, with figures like former Virginia AG Jason Miyares and others using the errors to argue the effort was sloppy or embarrassing, even as Democrats signaled they would continue fighting over redistricting.
Virginia Democrats made a hasty appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday to overturn the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling to strike down the redistricting referendum but were mocked for numerous spelling mistakes that appeared in court documents.
“First, if you are going to appeal to SCOTUS maybe don’t misspell Virginia????” former Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares wrote on X.
