Vance lists four things he has in common with Nixon: ‘Sounds like JD Vance’

He also discussed Trump’s legal issues post-presidency, including a recent conviction for business record falsification. Additionally, Vance shared details about his recent conversion to Catholicism, which he discusses in his latest book. He is currently on a national tour promoting the book and has indicated he will decide on a 2028 presidential run after the upcoming midterm elections.
Vice President JD Vance praised former President Richard Nixon as a “character in history” with whom he’s “fascinated,” saying he personally liked the 37th president for the similarities they shared in public office.
“A young senator, vice president, writes some bestselling books, is hated by the media — it kind of sounds like JD Vance,” he said of himself. “I’ve always liked Richard Nixon.”

Vance’s remarks came during a promotional event for his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in California on Thursday.
“I think that his historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, but I think deservedly so,” Vance said of the past Republican president. “If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story. The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy.”
The vice president then compared Nixon to President Donald Trump and the numerous problems he faced in recent years.
“If you look at the story of how the deep state took down Richard Nixon, it’s not all that different from what the same groups of people, the same institutions tried to do to Donald Trump in the first Trump administration,” Vance said. “There is a parallel.”
Trump was impeached twice by the House during his first term, although he was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. By contrast, Nixon was never impeached because he voluntarily resigned before the House could vote on the articles of impeachment stemming from the Watergate scandal and Nixon’s role in its cover-up.
After leaving office in 2021, Trump faced various criminal cases, including one that resulted in a conviction months before his 2024 reelection victory.
In that case, he was convicted on all 34 counts for falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to a pornographic actress who alleged she had sex with him two decades ago. Trump received an unconditional discharge, but the guilty verdict remains on his record. The president’s legal team is actively appealing the conviction.
VANCE’S CONVERSION AND THE DAWN OF THE ‘CATHOLIC MOMENT’
Since last week, Vance has been conducting a national press tour for his latest book, which focuses on his 2019 conversion to Catholicism and his faith journey.
The book release comes as many speculate whether he is gearing up for a 2028 presidential run. Vance said he is waiting until after the midterm elections to make a decision.
