US Mint’s $1 Trump commemorative coins sell out within hours

The U.S. Mint’s commemorative $1 coin, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and featuring President Donald trump’s face, quickly sold out shortly after its release. The coins, which are gold-colored but mainly made of copper, were offered in packages of 25 for $61 and 100 for $154.50. Due to high demand, the Mint announced that additional inventory was being produced, but the 100-coin bag remained unavailable. Visitors faced delays and purchase limits on the website as the coins became highly sought after. The coins include designs with “Liberty,” “1776-2026,” and the U.S. seal, commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the nation.

The U.S. Mint’s commemorative $1 coin ran out of stock Wednesday, just hours after the currency celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and bearing President Donald Trump’s face was released.

The gold coins went on sale at noon, featuring two options for buyers: a roll of 25 coins costing $61 and a bag of 100 Trump coins selling for $154.50. By around 3 p.m., a message on the U.S. Mint website said that the 25-coin roll “is available to be ordered now, but it is not currently in stock.”

“Additional inventory is being made,” the Mint website said of the limited-edition collectible currency. The 100-coin bag was listed as unavailable.

The Trump coins are gold-colored but composed mostly of copper. Depending on whether buyers purchase the 25- or 100-coin package, the prices range from about $1.55 to $2.44 per coin. The limited edition coins feature the words “Liberty” and “1776-2026” surrounding Trump’s image, along with the seal of the United States inscribed with “250” to honor the country’s semiquincentennial.

“Created to celebrate this historic national milestone, these special circulating dollar coins combine everyday American coinage with a once-in-a-generation anniversary design destined to become a standout addition to modern collections,” the U.S. Mint said.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, visitors to the mint’s website were placed in a waiting area for an estimated time of one hour, according to CNN. There was a limit of two purchases per household until 2 p.m. on Thursday.
