US fully supports Ukraine’s acquisition of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and Netherlands.
The United States Approves F-16 Fighter Jets for Ukraine
The United States has given its approval for American F-16 fighters to be deployed in Ukrainian skies, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict with Russia. However, it will still be several months before these jets are actively involved in the fight.
Denmark and the Netherlands have been granted permission by the United States to send their F-16s to Ukraine, according to a Reuters report. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed in a social media post that the Netherlands will donate 42 F-16s, while Denmark will supply 19 jets.
A powerful and very fruitful day.

In a formal letter supporting the deal, Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the United States’ full support for the transfer of F-16 fighter aircraft to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots by qualified F-16 instructors. He stressed the importance of Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian aggression and violation of its sovereignty.
However, it will still be several months before the F-16s can be fully utilized. According to The Washington Post, the first group of six Ukrainian pilots will not complete their training until next summer. The need for English language skills and the limited number of pilots who can participate in training due to the ongoing conflict pose challenges.
Despite the delays, Ukraine is eagerly anticipating the addition of F-16s to its arsenal. The country has long desired these fighter jets, as they would provide a significant upgrade to its outdated equipment. The F-16 deal follows a pattern in which Ukraine initially requests weapons, faces initial denials, and eventually receives them.
While the Biden administration believes that F-16s are not currently necessary in the ongoing war, it sees them as a long-term commitment to Ukraine’s defense. The deployment of these jets signifies the United States’ dedication to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
