Two Teens Hospitalized After Carjacking Goes Very Wrong, Police Say
An early Wednesday carjacking ended in chaos for two Philadelphia teens.
According to WPVI-TV, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old stole a vehicle but their escape was short-lived.
The stolen car crashed into a tree, causing it to topple over, before colliding with another tree, leaving a trail of debris in its wake.

The trapped teens had to wait for first responders to arrive and free them from the wreckage before being rushed to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
Police have confirmed that the teens will face charges for their actions.
According to Philadelphia police data, car thefts in the city have skyrocketed this year, with 19,213 vehicles stolen compared to 9,610 the previous year, marking a staggering 99.93 percent increase.
In a report by WPVI-TV in September, police warned that carjackings involving firearms often resulted in the stolen vehicles being taken out of state, particularly to New Jersey.
Residents are feeling increasingly unsafe, with one local resident, David Jackson, expressing his concerns about the rise in carjackings.
“You can’t even park your car anymore in your neighborhood and feel safe that your car is going to be safe,” Jackson said.
Another carjacking victim from South Philadelphia shared their harrowing experience, recounting how they were confronted with a gun when they exited their vehicle.
“The second came with an assault rifle with him, and that’s when I decided, ‘Oh I don’t think it’s worth anymore to fight,’” the victim said.
In a separate incident in August, a 15-year-old in Camden, New Jersey, was arrested in connection with an attempted carjacking that tragically resulted in the death of a 50-year-old Philadelphia man, as reported by WCAU.
The victim, Michael Salerno, was fatally shot in the head, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
“It appears that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to this 50-year-old victim when the shot was fired,” Small said.
Philadelphia Police Homicide Lt. Hamilton Marshmond emphasized the need for society to take a stand against these crimes.
“We as a society can no longer accept the actions of individuals who prey on this city. We can no longer make excuses for criminals that continue to break the laws and kill members of our society,” Marshmond said.

Why is it crucial to not only focus on apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators but also invest in community programs and raise awareness about car theft prevention measures
A Note from Our Founder:
As the founder of this publication, I want to take a moment to express my deep concern and sadness over the recent incident involving two Philadelphia teens who were hospitalized after a carjacking gone wrong. This tragic event is just one among many in a disturbing trend of car thefts and carjackings that have plagued our city.
The fact that car thefts in Philadelphia have skyrocketed by almost 100% this year is alarming and demands immediate attention from law enforcement, community leaders, and residents alike. It is clear that we are facing a significant problem that requires a comprehensive and proactive approach to address.
Carjacking incidents, especially those involving firearms, pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our community. It is not just the stolen vehicles themselves that are the concern, but the potential for violence and harm that these criminals bring with them. The tragic death of Michael Salerno, a result of an attempted carjacking, is a stark reminder of the gravity of these crimes.
We cannot simply accept these actions and make excuses for those who engage in such criminal behavior. It is imperative that we come together as a society to condemn these acts and support our law enforcement agencies in their efforts to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
In addition to the immediate response from law enforcement, we must also address the root causes of these crimes. We need to invest in community programs that provide alternatives and opportunities for at-risk youth, as well as educate the public on car theft prevention measures. By addressing the underlying issues, we can work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for everyone.
I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the teens involved in this incident, as well as to all the victims of carjackings in our city. Let us stand together, united in our commitment to put an end to these senseless acts of violence and ensure the safety of our community.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
