Trump launches America.gov AI website
President Donald Trump launched America.gov, an AI-powered website aimed at simplifying interactions between the public and the federal government. He praised the initiative as a revolutionary step, emphasizing that it woudl reduce paperwork and streamline services like passport renewal, name updates, and citizenship proof. Trump also signed an executive order requiring all federal agencies to integrate their public-facing services with America.gov immediately, viewing it as a reinvention of government for the modern era and a return of power to the people.
During an event at the Mellon auditorium, Trump highlighted the website’s role in saving Americans over 10 billion hours annually spent on government paperwork. He promoted the passage of the SAVE America Act, electoral integrity legislation that includes proof-of-citizenship requirements, claiming the new online system makes obtaining necessary documents easier and more accessible.
The event featured panels with officials and AI leaders, including Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia and tech CEOs like elon Musk, Jensen Huang, and Dave Limp. Trump has expressed a desire to discourage regulation of AI, which he refers to as “super intelligence,” and aimed to promote it’s positive potential.
Additionally, Trump discussed ongoing discussions with Chinese president Xi Jinping about AI, which he terms “superintelligence,” and announced plans to rename AI as SI. He and House Speaker Mike Johnson are scheduled to meet with AI industry leaders at the White House to address the rapid progress of AI technologies, although Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend. Notably, AI leaders such as Dario Amodei of Anthropic have called for stronger regulation of AI due to emerging threats.

The website is designed as a one-stop shop to help the public find information on the government across various agencies and reduce cumbersome paperwork.
“It’s not just simply a website,” Trump said. “It’s a restoration of America’s founding promise and it’s a reinvention of your government for the 21st century and beyond. We’re putting power and control back into the hands of the people, right where it belongs.”
The president claimed it would save the public hundreds of hours of paperwork by answering questions about services such as helping people renew their passports, update their names after getting married, and get a photo ID to show proof of citizenship, a key component of the SAVE America Act.
Trump has repeatedly urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, an electoral integrity bill, to no avail. But on Tuesday, he used the new website launch to push back against claims from critics that the bill’s proof-of-citizenship stipulation is too onerous.
“You can get everything now that you need in just one simple swipe,” Trump said. “So nobody will have any excuses. We must pass, and now can pass in theory very easily, the SAVE America Act because it takes the number one excuse away from you. Americans currently spend over 10 billion hours per year on government paperwork. We’re giving those 10 billion hours back to the American people.”
The all-day event features panels with top Trump administration officials and other AI leaders. Joe Gebbia, the first-ever U.S. chief design officer and Airbnb cofounder, officially unveiled the website before Trump took the stage to give his remarks.
Other Cabinet members at the event included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. Technology leaders also attended, including Elon Musk, whom Trump called a “great guy,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp.
Trump has urged increasingly AI-wary lawmakers not to regulate the industry, fearing it could give China the upper hand against the U.S. The president has also rebranded AI as “super intelligence” in his quest to change the negative narrative building in the nation against AI. The president met with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week where they discussed AI, although no concrete framework to limit the industry emerged.

“I spoke to President Xi; he loves it, and because when you say artificial intelligence, it’s artificial,” Trump said. “This isn’t. This is extreme intelligence. It’s superior intelligence. But the word ‘super’ is the best word of all, and it’s the simplest. And so we’re going to be naming it SI, superintelligence.”
Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are also set to meet AI leaders at the White House Tuesday afternoon to discuss the rapid development of AI. The meeting comes just two days after meeting with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the White House. Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend the meeting.
Amodei will attend the Tuesday afternoon meeting and, along with OpenAI leaders, has called for the United States to strongly regulate AI and manage threats that it poses.
