Trump calls for Vindman to be prosecuted after Florida election loss

President Donald Trump increased his criticism of Alexander Vindman after Vindman lost his Senate primary in Florida. Trump mocked Vindman on social media, called for his prosecution related to his involvement in Trump’s first impeachment, and accused him of treason for testifying against Trump in 2019 over allegations of pressuring ukraine to investigate Joe Biden. vindman had testified before Congress about Trump’s phone call with President Zelensky and claimed that Trump withheld military aid and a meeting in exchange for actions against Biden. Despite Trump’s efforts, Vindman narrowly lost the primary to Angie Nixon, a socialist candidate, in an upset victory. Nixon will face incumbent Senator Ashley Moody in the general election. Trump’s consistent calls for prosecution reflect his tendency to target political opponents, and Vindman’s loss highlights shifting political dynamics in Florida.

President Donald Trump ramped up his criticism of Alexander Vindman on Wednesday after the Democratic candidate lost his Senate primary in Florida.

In an overnight Truth Social post, Trump mocked Vindman for trailing Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon, a socialist. By Wednesday morning, he called for Vindman’s prosecution in relation to the U.S. Army combat veteran’s involvement in the first impeachment attempt against Trump in 2019.

The president accused Vindman of treason for serving as a central witness in that impeachment inquiry, which concerned allegations that Trump unlawfully pressured Ukraine to help him win reelection in 2020.

“The most gratifying loss last night was that of a real treasonous creep, Alexander Vindman, to a Radical Left Lunatic, who can’t speak or think properly, and who will go down to certain defeat at the hands of Ashley Moody, a truly Fantastic Senator, from the Great State Florida,” Trump posted Wednesday.

“Vindman, if you remember, was the one who lied about my ‘Perfect Call’ with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, only to find out that the conversation was routinely recorded and proved that I was 100% in the right (Completely Innocent!),” he wrote. “It was, indeed, a Perfect Call, and the Dumocrats Fake Impeachment effort massively failed. Vindman should be prosecuted for what he did!”

Vindman, the former director of European affairs for the National Security Council, testified before Congress about the phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The former White House official claimed Trump withheld $400 million in military aid to Ukraine and a White House meeting with Zelensky in return for a Ukraine-led investigation into then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Trump was impeached by the House in December 2019 over the scandal, but he was later acquitted by the Senate. Trump was also acquitted in the second impeachment effort following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Trump’s call for prosecution against Vindman is not out of the ordinary for him. He has frequently urged the Justice Department to target his political opponents, such as former FBI Director James Comey.

TRUMP RIDICULES ‘SLEAZEBAG VINDMAN’ FOR LOSS TO ‘RADICAL LEFT LUNATIC’ IN FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC SENATE PRIMARY

In Tuesday’s Democratic primary, Vindman lost to Nixon by more than 12 points. His defeat was unexpected, considering he significantly outraised Nixon. The socialist’s upset victory is the latest example of similar candidates winning congressional elections.

Nixon will challenge Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), who was endorsed by Trump, in November. The Republican incumbent easily won her primary with nearly 80% of the vote.
