Tragic Crash Claims ⁤Lives of Three United States Marines

During‌ a routine training exercise off the Northern⁢ Territory (NT) coast, tragedy struck as a Boeing MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft carrying 23 American personnel crashed. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, resulting in⁤ the loss of ‍three ⁢lives​ and ‌leaving five​ others in serious condition.

The marines aboard ⁢the aircraft were participating in Exercise Predators Run when the tragic incident occurred. As recovery‍ efforts continue, an investigation has been launched to determine‍ the cause of the⁢ crash.

Royal Darwin Hospital declared‍ a Code Brown, activating the highest level of emergency response, as they‌ prepared to receive the injured marines.​ NT Police Commissioner Michael Murphy⁢ stated that the emergency operation center, originally established for tackling fires, was redirected to the crash site to ‍assist with transportation of the injured.

Collaborating closely with the Australian defense force, the U.S. Marine Corps, and ⁢other agencies such as Careflight, efforts are underway to rescue and return the injured personnel to Darwin for​ treatment. The national critical care and trauma response team has been​ deployed to‌ triage patients at the⁢ crash site.

Despite⁢ the remote⁢ location‌ of the crash on the Tiwi Islands, every effort ‌is being made to ensure the ⁣safe transportation of the injured to hospitals. NT‌ Chief‌ Minister Natasha Fyles emphasized the ‍immediate ⁢focus on​ providing ‌necessary medical care⁣ to those‌ affected.

As ‍the incident response‌ unfolds, the Australian‍ Department of Defence has confirmed that the incident involved United ⁢States defense personnel⁢ and that Australian Defence Force ‌members were not involved. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his condolences and assured the US consul that the NT’s resources are fully ⁤dedicated to the response.
