The Trump Indictment Is Backfiring

A recent poll by Rasmussen Reports found that 55% of likely voters in the United States believe that the indictment and attempted prosecution of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump is “bad for America.” This controversy has even reached the ears of both parties, with 34% of Democrats and 31% of self-described “Liberal” voters seeing it as a negative for the country.

Francey Hakes, a former Federal Prosecutor, recently made a statement saying, “This is a serious time because this is banana republic sort of stuff. Using the law as a weapon against a political opponent is so wrong.” When pollsters asked voters their thoughts on this statement, 64% agreed, with 48% strongly agreeing. Another 28% disagreed, with 20% of the respondents strongly disagreeing.

Interestingly, when voters were asked whether the indictment would make it more likely for Trump to win the 2024 election, almost a third (32%) of Democrats said “more likely.” Among likely voters, 42% said “more likely,” while 29% said “less likely.” However, one in five Republican voters said that it may make a Trump ’24 ticket “less likely.”

The unprecedented criminal proceedings have been strongly opposed by voices on all angles of the American political spectrum, including libertarian-left comedian Bill Maher, who said, “I don’t want to live in a country where we are one of these places where whoever is president, as soon as they get out of office, they go after them.”

Last week, The National Pulse revealed the political compromise at the heart of D.A. Alvin Bragg’s Manhattan case against former President Trump, including his own family members’ links to leading Democrats such as Kamala Harris.
