Trump blasts Pirro over Reflecting Pool reversal: ‘VANDALISM’

Hearn, who pleaded not guilty, was involved in a multimillion-dollar project aimed at refurbishing the pool for the U.S. 250th anniversary, which encountered several difficulties.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro filed a motion to dismiss the indictment against David Hearn earlier this week, leading Trump to issue a message criticizing the prosecutor and former Fox News Host, with whom he is typically on friendly terms.

“I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, on the Reflecting Pool,” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social.
“I don’t know what she was thinking?” he continued. “To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM, that included the grass, which had a big 86 47 emblazoned in giant letters on it, and other elements of the surrounding area. There may have been some contractor difficulty, but the major damage was caused by VANDALS!”
Hearn has pleaded not guilty to one felony count of property destruction. When she moved to dismiss the indictment on Friday, Pirro said that the disputed damage to the landmark was the “result of flawed installation by the contractor” instead of intentional vandalism, and slammed officials for providing her office with “less than fulsome information at the outset of this case.”
“It was not until after the return of the indictment, that the DOI provided additional documents to the USAO-DC indicating that damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings (‘AIC’), and the rush to complete the project prior to events associated with the America 250 celebration in the weeks surrounding Independence Day 2026,” the court filing to dismiss the DOJ’s initial indictment read.

“It was not until after these documents were produced that USAO-DC first became aware of information showing that the damage was the result of a botched installation and not vandalism as initially represented by DOI,” the filing continued.
The damage occurred during a multi-million dollar resurfacing and painting project on the Reflecting Pool. The project to give the pool a facelift to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday began in April, but has been beset by difficulties after it became plagued by an algae bloom and the pool’s new blue lining began to peel.
