Texas man hired through Craigslist arrested for smuggling migrants

A criminal smuggling organization recruited a Texas man through Craigslist to transport migrants from Mexico into the United States, authorities who arrested him said this week.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Nathaniel Chavez, 42, was detained while driving a gray Volkswagen Passat through Val Verde County with four small Mexican immigrants toward Austin, Texas. Chavez, who according to government is from Spring, Texas, was charged with two counts of smuggling adults for monetary gain and one count of minors.

When questioned by the police about his activities, the assume claimed to have found the driving job on Craigslist, an online advertising website. It was unclear what Chavez would receive in exchange for the alleged smuggling activity.

The Craigslist campaign, which was posted on the Houston area website, read,” Transport job around, pay same day and cash on delivery.” The classified was succinct, stating that” all vehicle types” were” wanted” and that all” you need is a vehicle” for the task at hand.

They are being recruited off social marketing, whether it be Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram, and they are promised large sums of money for very little work, according to Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe of the original method for tracking down pirates.

More Americans are being hired to bring workers into the country as they continue to flood the U.S. Mexico border. The legislative and executive branches are still unable to remove the political impasse that has prevented any advancement on important social issues, such as immigration reform, and Chavez’s’s imprisonment comes as border states struggle to address the crisis.

The border crisis was directly related to rising violence in his place, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels told House and Senate lawmakers earlier this month while traveling to the frontier and port of entry.
