Super Bowl-Bound Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Praises God For Getting Him There

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a Chiefs player, praised God for allowing him to play in the AFC Championship match against the Bengals. They lost to them and the Chiefs won another Super Bowl.

Mahomes, who had suffered a high-ankle sprain going into the game, spoke to CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson following Kansas City’s 23-20 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday, and thanked God for getting him there.

“First off, I wanna thank God, man,” the Chiefs’ QB Share. “He healed my body this week, had to battle through that. He gave me the strength to be out here.”

“But I was with this team, man,” he added. “We played together. I said it from the beginning, when we were in the locker room, I said we gotta be together and this team stepped up.”

“It’s a great football team and we showed this place that it’s Arrowhead, it’s not Burrowhead out here,” Mahomes continued as he referred to the trash talk the team was dealing with from the Bengals leading up to Sunday’s game.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a win, with 31 seconds left on the clock, during the Championship game against Joe Burrows and Cincinnati. The KC QB got the ball and took off on foot to get the first down. At the end of his run, he was pushed from behind by Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai while he was out of bounds. Referees threw a flag on the play for unnecessary roughness, giving the Chiefs 15 yards.

Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker then drilled a 45-yard field goal with three seconds left to give Kansas City the lead and then victory.

Earlier in the day, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts also had only praise for God following Philadelphia’s 31-7 victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Only God knows the things that each individual on this team has been able to overcome to come together as a team and do something special,” Hurts shared.

Mahomes will now have two weeks to rest his ankle before the Chiefs head to Glendale, Arizona, to play Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
