Snoop Dogg Runs Competing Poll To See If He Should Take Control Of Twitter From Elon Musk

Rapper Snoop Dogg waded into the apparent battle for control of Twitter after owner, CEO, and self-described “Chief Twit” Elon Musk polled users to determine whether he should step down from direct management of the platform.

Musk’s poll did not go his way — and Snoop Dogg responded by posting a poll of his own, asking whether he should be considered to take over the role. The rapper shared his poll on Sunday evening, and it had already racked up nearly 2.5 million votes by midday on Monday.

“Should I run Twitter?” Snoop Dogg asked.

Retired tennis star Martina Navratilova was among those who said, “Yes, please” — and with seven hours left for the poll to run, more than 80% had voted in Snoop Dogg’s favor. Just 18.9% voted against the rapper.

News writer Ian Boudreau was also a fan of the idea, and he even listed a number of Snoop’s accomplishments that qualified him for the role. “A proven record of business successes spanning 30+ years; Ability to forge meaningful partnerships across industries; Astounding work ethic; Deep rolodex; Comprehensive understanding of social media’s power for both advertisers and creators,” he tweeted. “Snoop would kick ass at this.”

“Dilbert” cartoonist Scott Adams agreed, but he upped the ante and suggested that Snoop Dogg bring his business partner and DIY mogul Martha Stewart into the mix. “Dear Simulation, If you need to take @elonmusk out of the Twitter CEO job, please give us @SnoopDogg and @MarthaStewart as a co-CEO team,” he said.

Musk’s poll — the results of which he promised to abide by in his initial post — indicated that people want him to step aside.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk tweeted — and the final results showed that 57.5% were in favor of the proposal and 42.5% opposed it.

And while Musk’s poll — and Snoop Dogg’s follow-up — certainly generated a lot of conversation, FOX 5 DC anchor Jim Lokay pointed out the fact that Musk had already floated the possibility of bringing in someone else to run the platform’s day-to-day operations.

“While I realize the @elonmusk ‘should I step down poll?’ is great fodder, please remember that back in October, he told a judge he planned to ‘reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time,’” Lokay tweeted.
