Anti-abortion group posts, then deletes message about death of Mitch McConnell

A recent social media post by the National Right to Life Committee mistakenly suggested that Senator Mitch McConnell had died, but the post was quickly deleted. The post congratulated him on his leadership in the pro-life movement and implied he had passed away, though no confirmed reports of his death exist. This incident occurred amid ongoing speculation about McConnell’s health, following his hospitalization as June 14 for an undisclosed condition and a video showing him being loaded into an ambulance after a suspected cardiac arrest. Various officials, including Kentucky governor Andy Beshear, have requested updates on his health, with some prominent figures expressing uncertainty about his current status. The Washington examiner reached out to NRLC for comment regarding the deleted post.

The country’s largest anti-abortion group posted and quickly deleted a message Saturday alluding to the death of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), despite a lack of confirmed reports about the former Senate Republican leader’s demise.

“National Right to Life mourns the passing of Senator Mitch McConnell with deep gratitude for his decades of steadfast leadership in defense of unborn children,” read a 10:03 a.m. X post from the National Right to Life Committee.

NRLC has since deleted the post, which a screenshot posted by the Federalist‘s Margot Cleveland shows went on to say of McConnell: “Throughout his distinguished career, he championed the pro-life cause, protected essential safeguards, and helped secure…” Cleveland’s screenshot of NRLC’s post cuts off before the rest of this sentence.

The NRLC post comes amid weeks of speculation about McConnell’s health.

McConnell, 84, has been hospitalized since June 14 for a condition that his office has still not disclosed. Speculation grew further on Friday, when multiple outlets published a June 14 video that showed McConnell being loaded into an ambulance after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest.

ANDY BESHEAR REQUESTS UPDATE ON MITCH MCCONNELL’S HEALTH

While some Republicans said they spoke to McConnell this week, President Donald Trump and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) said they are unsure if Kentucky’s senior senator is still alive.

Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) has also formally requested an update on McConnell’s condition in case he is unable to finish his term and Beshear needs to call a special election to fill the Senate seat.
