Republican Sen. Rand Paul Accuses Dr. Fauci of Lying in Explosive Criminal Referral
Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has made a bold claim, asserting that the truth of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s lies can be found in Fauci’s own emails.
Paul, who has engaged in frequent clashes with Fauci, has taken the extraordinary step of sending a criminal referral to Attorney General Merrick Garland, accusing Fauci of lying to Congress. This referral is a request to prosecute an alleged crime, as Congress lacks the power to do so.
Paul shared some of his evidence in a social media post, showcasing a screenshot of an email posted by RealClearPolitics White House reporter Philip Wegmann.

According to Paul, the email “directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie. That’s why I sent an official criminal referral to the DOJ.”
The screenshot revealed an alleged email written by Fauci, which expressed concern over the possibility of intentional mutations in the virus. It stated, “The suspicion was heightened by the fact that scientists in Wuhan University are known to have been working on gain-of-function experiments to determine the molecular mechanisms associated with bat viruses adapting to human infection, and the outbreak originated in Wuhan.”
In a fiery hearing in July 2021, Paul accused Fauci of lying to Congress, claiming that the research conducted in the Wuhan lab constituted gain-of-function research. Fauci vehemently denied the accusation, leading to a heated exchange.
Fauci’s response was defiant. “Senator Paul, I have never lied before the Congress, and I do not retract that statement. … You do not know what you are talking about, quite frankly, and I want to say that officially. You do not know what you are talking about,” he said.
Paul believes that the focus on the Wuhan lab was not driven by scientific inquiry but rather by financial interests. He claims that millions of dollars were exchanged to downplay the lab’s involvement in the pandemic.
According to Paul, the evidence of a cover-up is overwhelming. He stated, “There has probably never been a cover-up in the history of all politics that was so completely documented that they were lying to us. Every one of their private emails has, ‘Oh, my goodness, it looks like it comes from the lab.'”
Paul has referred Fauci to the Attorney General for prosecution, but he remains skeptical of the current Attorney General’s willingness to act. He said, ”And it’s good luck on getting him to do his job.”
It remains to be seen how this explosive accusation will unfold, but one thing is clear: the battle between Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci is far from over.
