Rand Paul refers Dr. Fauci’s gain-of-function claims to DOJ.
Sen. Rand Paul Refers Dr. Anthony Fauci to the Department of Justice
Sen. Rand Paul (I-KY) made a significant announcement on Saturday, revealing that he has referred Dr. Anthony Fauci to the Department of Justice. This comes after the discovery of a February 2020 email exchange in which Fauci acknowledged knowledge of gain-of-function experiments conducted by scientists at Wuhan University.
In the email, Fauci mentioned a phone call with “highly credible scientists” who expressed concerns about unusual mutations in the nCov virus. There was suspicion that these mutations were intentionally inserted and not naturally evolved. While some scientists strongly believed in this possibility, others disagreed. Fauci admitted that the reasons behind each side of the argument were too complicated to explain.
Sen. Paul took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a screenshot of this email and express his disbelief. He accused Fauci of lying during a committee hearing, where Fauci denied any funding of gain-of-function research. Sen. Paul’s official criminal referral to the DOJ aims to hold Fauci accountable for his contradictory statements.
It’s important to note that the Senate lacks the authority to bring criminal charges against an individual. Therefore, their only recourse is to call upon the Department of Justice to initiate an investigation.
The Hunter Biden Investigation: The Significance of the Devon Archer Testimony
While this development unfolds, it’s crucial to remember the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden. The testimony of Devon Archer holds immense importance in shedding light on this matter.
During a Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing in May, Sen. Paul questioned Fauci about gain-of-function research in Wuhan. Fauci vehemently denied any falsehood, stating, “I’ve never lied before Congress.” It is worth mentioning that Fauci previously served as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, with two individuals now taking his place at each respective agency.
