Pre-K teacher holds anti-Israel ‘Teach-Ins’ on ‘Ethnic Cleansing’, claims ‘Palestine is a children’s concern’: Report.
An Award-Winning Pre-K Teacher in NYC Spreads Anti-Israel Propaganda to Young Learners
A highly acclaimed pre-kindergarten teacher in New York City is using her position to indoctrinate young minds with the belief that Israel is evil. Siriana Abboud, a 29-year-old teacher at PS 59 in Manhattan, has been encouraging parents and fellow educators to discuss topics such as ”land theft, displacement, and ethnic cleansing” with pre-K children, according to the New York Post.
Insiders and educators have revealed that Abboud firmly believes that teaching cannot be truly radical or revolutionary unless it acknowledges the ongoing colonization of Palestine by Zionism. She advocates for justice-informed teaching and emphasizes the importance of addressing power imbalances in the classroom. According to the report, she claims that remaining silent on the issue of Palestine means not teaching the truth.

Despite her controversial views, Abboud was recognized as the early childhood recipient of the Big Apple Award for the 2023-24 academic year. This prestigious award granted her a seat on the Chancellor’s Teacher Advisory Council, where she could share her teaching practices with others.
On her Instagram page, Abboud has posted messages such as “We stand against genocide. Stop letting your tax dollars support the massacre and ethnic cleansing of Palestine.” She also referred to Zionist war crimes as brutal and well-documented.

In one of her “teach-ins” on social media titled “Speaking with your child about Palestine,” Abboud invites questions to help people unlearn anti-Palestinian rhetoric and orientalist views. She emphasizes the importance of discussing Palestine with children, just as one would discuss racism and oppression.
In another post, Abboud states, “The violence began when the colonizers invaded Palestine. It will end when Palestine is liberated and every Palestinian has their freedom in their historic homeland.” She also claims that Palestine is a children’s issue.
According to the report, Abboud considers Israel a “fascist ethnostate.” On her Allusio Academy Facebook page, she alleges that she has learned about the hidden and brutal history of rape used to establish the state of Israel.
Not everyone is supportive of Abboud’s teachings. The Post reported that some colleagues view her actions as a form of brainwashing. One employee stated that she is indoctrinating preschool-age children, while a concerned mother expressed fear about sending her child to Abboud’s class.
The Canary Mission, an organization that documents incidents of anti-Semitism, has accused Abboud of demonizing Israel, spreading hatred of Zionism, and engaging in anti-Israel activism.

Students at a young age are not exposed to biased propaganda. How can teachers strike a balance between exposing children to multiple perspectives while avoiding highly politicized and controversial topics in pre-K education?
D parent expressed concern that her child might be influenced by Abboud’s anti-Israel propaganda. This parent believes that pre-K should be a time for children to learn about kindness, sharing, and basic social skills, rather than being exposed to highly politicized and controversial topics.
The allegations against Abboud have sparked a heated debate about the role of teachers in shaping young minds. While teachers do have the responsibility to educate and expose children to a variety of perspectives, it is crucial that they do so in a balanced and age-appropriate manner. Children at the pre-K level are not equipped to understand the complexities of geopolitical conflicts and should not be exposed to biased propaganda.
The New York City Department of Education has stated that it is aware of the allegations against Abboud and is investigating the matter. They have emphasized that all educators are expected to adhere to professional standards and guidelines, which include providing inclusive and unbiased education to students.
This incident raises important questions about the politicization of education and the potential impact it can have on young learners. Education should be a neutral ground where students are encouraged to think critically and form their own opinions based on factual information and diverse perspectives. Teachers must be cautious not to impose their own personal beliefs on impressionable minds.
While it is essential to promote awareness and understanding of different cultures and global issues, it is equally crucial to ensure that
