The atmosphere was electric at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. as Republicans emerged triumphant in their third consecutive Congressional Baseball Game. With a staggering 26,663 tickets sold, the stadium was packed with enthusiastic supporters. The first run of the game was scored by Rep. William Timmons (R-SC), running on behalf of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Scalise, unfortunately, couldn’t participate due to the injuries he sustained six years ago during a tragic shooting incident at a YMCA practice field in suburban Alexandria. Despite the adversity, Scalise expressed his gratitude for being alive and his determination to defend their championship title.

“For me, this year’s Congressional Baseball Game is especially meaningful as it marks the sixth anniversary of the shooting,” Scalise told NOLA.com before the game. “By God’s grace and the incredible heroism of our Capitol Police officers, first responders, and my teammates, I am lucky to be alive today to play another game and I look forward to defending our title as champions.”

The Republicans dominated the game, leading 11-2 by the end of the fourth inning. Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) showcased his pitching skills until the fifth inning, when the Democrats managed to score three runs, injecting some excitement into the match.

Among the notable players who graced the field on Wednesday were Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep.
