Paxton’s estranged wife doesn’t offer endorsement in Senate race

Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton urged supporters in last-minute emails to vote in GOP runoffs for attorney general (Mayes Middleton), Texas railroad commissioner (jim Wright), and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (Thomas Smith), while notably not backing her estranged husband, Texas Attorney general Ken Paxton, in his high-profile runoff against Sen. John Cornyn. The report also notes that Angela Paxton has filed for divorce, saying she has sought reconciliation but believes remaining in the marriage is not right for her or her children.

Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton snubbed her estranged husband, state Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), on Tuesday when offering last-minute endorsements ahead of the state’s GOP runoffs.

Angela Paxton sent out an email encouraging supporters to get out and vote in three runoffs on Tuesday. The state senator urged support for state Sen. Mayes Middleton’s attorney general campaign, Jim Wright’s bid for Texas railroad commissioner, and Thomas Smith’s run for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the Current Revolt reported.

In the email, Angela Paxton did not mention the high-profile Senate GOP runoff between her estranged husband and four-term Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). Ken Paxton secured Trump’s backing last week against Cornyn.

Ken and Angela Paxton married in 1986. In 2025, Angela Paxton announced she was filing for divorce from her husband.

WHAT TO WATCH IN THE HIGH-STAKES TEXAS PRIMARY RUNOFF ELECTIONS

“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds,” Angela Paxton wrote on X. “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Paxton’s campaign for comment.
