Paul Pelosi, the husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), is facing a hit-and-run charge in Napa County, California, after he allegedly crashed into a legally parked car on Friday and subsequently left the scene.

The Napa County Sheriff’s office said on Saturday he was not arrested and did not have alcohol in his system, but “admitted to hitting something.” Pelosi pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence in 2022 and was sentenced to five days in jail.

“[Pelosi] said he did not know what he had hit, so he kept driving,” a sheriff’s office statement said. “He drove until his car became disabled and was no longer able to continue driving.”

Pelosi, 86, was driving his brown convertible in Yountville on Friday when he struck a car on the side of the road. Deputies later found Pelosi roughly a quarter of a mile away from the crash after a witness saw the collision and called 911.

His car had “significant damage which was consistent with the recent crash,” a sheriff said.

“Mr. Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage,” a Pelosi family spokesperson told NBC News. “Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.”

Pelosi was not taken into custody, and the case has been sent to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. Deputies concluded he was not driving under the influence of alcohol after conducting a breathalyzer test.

NANCY PELOSI TO CREATE NEW INSTITUTE AT UC BERKELEY AFTER RETIRING FROM CONGRESS

The businessman and investor suffered head injuries in a 2022 attack at the couple’s home outside San Francisco after a man broke in and struck him repeatedly with a hammer.

His wife, the former speaker of the House, announced last November that she would not seek reelection and thus retire in January 2027.
