Patriots and Seahawks to sport ‘USA 250’ patches at Super Bowl

Teh New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will wear “USA 250” patches on their right chests at the Feb. 8, 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara to mark the United states’ 250th anniversary. Team social accounts showcased quarterbacks Sam Darnold (Seahawks) and Drake Maye (Patriots) in the commemorative uniforms.

The Seahawks are making their first Super Bowl appearance since 2015,when a late-game decision cost them the title, while the Patriots last reached the game in 2019 under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady; they are now led by coach Mike Vrabel with Maye at quarterback. The NFL has incorporated additional semiquincentennial touches across Week 18 and the playoffs—sideline markings, special game balls, and coin-toss branding—in coordination with America250, the federally created body organizing anniversary events.

Separately, President Donald Trump has promoted and taken steps to expand celebratory sporting events tied to the anniversary, including an executive order planning an IndyCar race on the National Mall this summer and proposals for other high-profile events like a UFC fight at historic Washington venues.

Patriots and Seahawks to sport ‘USA 250’ patches at Super Bowl for semiquincentennial

The 2026 Super Bowl teams will wear patches celebrating the United States’s 250th birthday on their jerseys during the game.

On Feb. 8, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will wear uniforms with “USA 250” logos on the right chest.

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and Patriots quarterback Drake Maye were featured on their teams’ social media accounts, posing in uniform alongside other players.

The 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, will be the Seahawks’s first Super Bowl appearance since 2015, when they lost to the Patriots. The game effectively ended with an infamous play call by then-Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who opted to have then-quarterback Russell Wilson throw the ball at the one-yard line instead of handing it off to running back Marshawn Lynch. Wilson’s throw was intercepted, sealing the game for the Patriots.

The Patriots last went to the Super Bowl in 2019, beating the Los Angeles Rams in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever. The Patriots were led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady at the time. Former Patriots player Mike Vrabel is now the team’s head coach, and Maye, an MVP candidate, is their signal caller.

The nod to the U.S.’s semiquincentennial at the milestone game is the NFL’s latest move to honor the country’s anniversary.

The league also added “American 250” markings on the sidelines, on game balls, and for coin tosses throughout Week 18 of the regular season and the playoffs. America250, the entity created by Congress to lead celebrations, is spearheading coordination with the NFL and other sports leagues to mark the semiquincentennial.

President Donald Trump has also pushed for a variety of sporting events to celebrate the anniversary, including a planned UFC fight at the White House and an IndyCar race in Washington, D.C., this summer.

The president signed an executive order on Friday detailing the race, which will be free to the public and take place on the National Mall from Aug. 21-23. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy have been tasked with developing the festivities, alongside Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser.

“He loves sports,” Burgum said during the Oval Office signing. “I mean, to any American who loves sports, you ought to love this president, because he’s bringing professional sports to our capital.”
