NY Post Editorial Board: New York Progressives Are Anti-Asian Across the Board

The policies of New York progressives are becoming more and more anti-Asian according to reports.

Their latest Good Cause Eviction bill causes concern as it aims to bring around 2 million apartments under a new statewide rent-control regime, which has upset the city’s Asian community.

As the city’s small-landlord community is strongly represented among Asian-Americans, this is seen as another attack on them by arrogant, far-off leftists. An association of Chinese landlords called New York Small Landlords has been fighting against progressive policies on eviction since the eviction moratorium in 2020.

GCE is only part of progressives’ efforts that have hurt New York’s Asians.

The effort to ruin the Big Apple’s merit-based admissions policies to academically rigorous schools is another example. Promoted under the guise of correcting an imbalance in education, the policy actually aims to reduce the number of Asian students in some of the most selective high schools in the US. Mayor Bill de Blasio has already abandoned competitive tests for most selective school admissions while the present administration works on restoring this discriminatory system.

The progs hate charter schools, too. They oppose Gov. Kathy Hochul’s bid to allow dozens of new charters to open in the city, meaning there would be no new charters for Asian neighborhoods. This explains the recent pro-charter rally held by Asian American parents.

Public safety is a major concern for the Asian-American community, with the left’s criminal-justice ‘reforms’ having helped power a massive rise in anti-Asian hate crimes. The Democrats in office are doing nothing to address the issue.

As Asian-American voters increasingly turn to the right, Republicans have an opportunity to capitalize on this change in electoral allegiance.
