Ex-Vogue editor bashed for supporting controversial designer
A Washington Examiner columnist, Joe Concha, criticized Vogue editor Anna Wintour for defending fashion designer John Galliano after the Metropolitan Museum of Art canceled a planned 2027 Met Gala exhibit honoring Galliano due to past racist and antisemitic remarks, including a hate crime conviction related to anti-Semitism. Concha argued that Wintour’s support for Galliano was misguided, especially given the ongoing prevalence of antisemitism in the U.S., citing examples like Twitch streamer Hasan Piker’s controversial comments. He urged Wintour to accept her loss over the exhibit, criticizing her for standing by Galliano’s decision to withdraw and for allegedly enabling antisemitic rhetoric in broader political and cultural contexts. Concha emphasized that such attitudes reflect a concerning rise in antisemitism nationwide.
Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said British fashion editor and former editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour should “take the L” after a proposed Met Gala exhibit honoring a controversial designer was canceled.
“Here you have the editor of Vogue magazine, alright, she is royalty amongst the elites among liberals in New York for 37 years, and she retired from that last year, and now the Met Gala will probably force her to retire at this point,” Concha said on Fox News’s “The Faulkner Focus” Thursday.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art canceled plans for a 2027 Met Gala exhibit that would have honored fashion designer John Galliano following major backlash over past racist and antisemitic statements. Galliano has a prior hate crime conviction after an antisemitism trial in France back in 2011. The trial stemmed from a video that included the remark, “I love Hitler,” according to CNN.
After the exhibit was canceled, Wintour appeared to double down in support of the designer.
“John’s decision that the exhibition devoted to his work should not take place at this time is very courageous and a measure of the man he is,” Wintour wrote in a statement.
Concha said that antisemitism in the country is “off the charts.”
“Just take the L,” Concha said. “You screwed up on this one, and she’s been dying on this hill for many years. She’s trying this whole rehab effort of John Galliano where, again, once you say that you love Hitler, I don’t care if you said it years ago, that is disqualifying.”
Concha said the incident was especially concerning given the antisemitism still circulating within the country, giving the example of Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who has been criticized for antisemitic comments, such as remarks like “America deserved 9/11” and targeting Jewish Americans.
“When you have someone like Hasan Piker, campaigning with [Abdul] el Sayed, going to Zohran Mamdani’s victory party, having those men on his podcast,” Concha said. “Behind him is a picture of the World Trade Center when one of the planes is hitting it and the explosion, and he features that behind him.”
Concha said the fact that candidates such as el Sayed and Mamdani won’t disavow Piker by name shows that those Democrats are embracing antisemitism because they need votes.
