No Kings protests ‘regurgitating’ same voters: Salena Zito
Salena Zito, a Washington Examiner columnist, argues that the third nationwide “No Kings” protest against the Trump management did not recruit new supporters. She observed at rallies in Pittsburgh and Mount Lebanon that, while crowds were sizable, they largely consisted of the same voters seen in 2024, lacking new members as well as working-class or culturally diverse depiction. Former Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Conor Lamb, who spoke at Mount Lebanon, said he recognized almost everyone in the crowd. Zito contends that to build a broader coalition, organizers must attract new people rather than recycle the same base. The piece also cites media criticism labeling the protests as contrived and notes appearances by high-profile speakers, such as Robert De Niro, that seemed inauthentic. ‘No Kings’ protests are ‘regurgitating’ the same voters from 2024: Salena Zito
Washington Examiner columnist Salena Zito said the “No Kings” protests are not drawing “new” people into their coalition.
The third nationwide No Kings protests against the Trump administration were held on Saturday. Zito said she thinks the protests are “so dumb,” but said she noticed a “really important” point when watching two rallies in Pittsburgh and Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Zito said former Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Conor Lamb spoke at a protest in Mount Lebanon and realized while watching it online that “I know almost everyone” there.
“There’s no one new in this crowd. They’re the same crowd regurgitated every time,” Zito said on the Hugh Hewitt Show. “Are the crowds sizable? Yes. But they’re not new.”
Zito emphasized that to build a coalition, one needs to bring “new” people, but the No Kings attendees are “the same voters they had in 2024.” She noted this aspect “really needs to be driven home.”
NO KINGS ANTI-OLIGARCHS WILL SUPPORT ‘TYRANTS’ IF THEY SHARE IDEOLOGY: GUY BENSON
Zito added that the protesters lacked “cultural diversity,” saying there were no working-class people in attendance.
Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said Monday he couldn’t “get away” from the word “contrived” when describing the No Kings protests, citing an investigation that claimed around 500 groups were behind the protests. He also noted how prominent speakers didn’t seem authentic, saying actor Robert De Niro was “tripping all over his script” when speaking in New York City.
