Former MSNBC host continues anti-Israel advocacy at The Guardian
Mehdi Hasan Calls on President Biden to “Stop the Bombing in Gaza”
Recently-ousted MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan, formerly of “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” has joined The Guardian U.S. and is using his first column to make a powerful plea to President Joe Biden. In his column, Hasan demands that Biden “stop the bombing in Gaza” and put an end to the ongoing genocide.
Hasan, who has been a fan of The Guardian since his teenage years, expressed his excitement about his new role, stating, “Now I get to write some of my own in what is perhaps one of the busiest and biggest news years of my lifetime. It’s a huge honor and a privilege.”
“Mr President, make the call. End this genocide.”
In his column, Hasan presents a case against Israel, focusing on the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians. However, he only briefly mentions this in paragraph 22 of 27, choosing to emphasize the suffering in Gaza instead. Hasan highlights the alarming numbers published by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, including the deaths of Palestinian mothers, amputations of Palestinian children’s legs, and the high rate of starvation among Palestinians in Gaza.
Hasan firmly believes that a phone call from President Biden to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu could bring about an immediate ceasefire. He points out that Biden has previously used his power to stop Netanyahu from killing Palestinians en masse in Gaza. In May 2021, Israel bombed the strip for 11 consecutive days, resulting in the deaths of over 100 Palestinians, including 66 children. It was only after Biden’s intervention that a ceasefire was announced, leading to Netanyahu’s eventual removal from office.
“We need to accomplish more,” pleaded Netanyahu when Biden called him on 19 May.
According to journalist Franklin Foer, Biden responded, “Hey, man, we are out of runway here. It’s over.” Two days later, a ceasefire was announced, and less than a month later, the Israeli prime minister was ejected from office.

It’s important to note that Hasan has a history of attacking Israel and defending anti-Semitic members of Congress, such as Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. He has also shown support for anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns. Despite this, Hasan’s call for President Biden to take action in Gaza remains a significant and controversial topic.
What infrastructure has been destroyed in Gaza due to the bombings, and how has it impacted the basic necessities of the Palestinian people living there?
Owards the Palestinian people in Gaza. He argues that Israel’s bombing campaign is disproportionate and has resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives. Hasan condemns the Biden administration’s support for Israel’s actions and calls for immediate intervention to stop the violence.
The columnist highlights the devastating impact of the bombings on the Palestinian population, describing it as a “genocide.” He points out the destruction of schools, hospitals, and other vital infrastructure, leaving the people of Gaza without access to basic necessities, such as clean water and medical supplies. Hasan emphasizes that the Palestinian people have endured decades of occupation and oppression and deserve to live in peace and dignity.
Furthermore, Hasan criticizes the lack of accountability for Israel’s actions and the unequal treatment of Palestinians compared to Israelis. He questions the United States’ unwavering support for Israel and argues that it undermines its reputation as a champion of human rights. The columnist calls on President Biden, as the leader of the free world, to take a stand and pressure Israel to halt its bombing campaign.
Hasan urges President Biden to use the leverage and influence of the United States to demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. He emphasizes that the international community cannot remain silent in the face of such atrocities and should hold Israel accountable for its actions.
The columnist concludes his plea by reminding President Biden of his commitment to promoting human rights and justice, both domestically and internationally. He calls on the president to live up to his promises and seize the opportunity to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Hasan’s column serves as a powerful call to action, urging President Biden to prioritize the lives and well-being of the Palestinian people. It highlights the urgency of the situation and calls for immediate intervention to stop the violence and address the root causes of the conflict. The column also underscores the need for global solidarity and accountability to ensure a just and lasting peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.
