Kevin Costner’s Divorce and the End of ‘Yellowstone’: Are They Connected?

Last week, Hollywood star Kevin Costner was blindsided when his wife Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage. Shortly after, it was announced that Costner’s show “Yellowstone” would be ending after its current fifth season. However, sources close to Costner are now speaking out to claim that these two events are unrelated.

Costner’s Divorce

One insider told People Magazine that Costner’s divorce “has nothing to do with ‘Yellowstone,'” adding that “the two situations are unrelated.” Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner early last week, and a representative for Costner said afterwards, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Costner had been married to Baumgartner since 2004, and they are parents to three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12. “It was not anything that he wanted or sought,” the insider said. “And if he could change the situation, he would.”

Another longtime friend of Costner’s told Page Six that the actor was left “stunned” when he learned of his wife’s divorce filing. “Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s actions, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take her back,” the insider said. “It’s disappointing, he loves her and he loves his children.”

‘Yellowstone’ Ending

Days after the divorce filing, it was announced that “Yellowstone” would be ending after its current fifth season. However, a sequel series is in the works, and Matthew McConaughey is reportedly in talks to star in it. The sequel series will air on Paramount Network and then stream exclusively on Paramount+.
