NBA’s Jonathan Isaac supports US women’s soccer doing the right thing for everyone’s benefit.
NBA Star Jonathan Isaac Calls for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to “Do the Right Thing” in 2023 World Cup
“It would only benefit us for them to do the right thing and to share their pride,” NBA star Jonathan Isaac expressed during an interview with Megyn Kelly on her SiriusXM show, The Megyn Kelly Show.
Controversy Surrounding the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team
Last week, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team sparked controversy when most players refused to sing the national anthem or place their hands over their hearts. While the anthem played, many team members silently protested, displaying little emotion or reaction.
Isaac further commented, “But at the same time, the America that they live in affords them the freedom to go and not sing the national anthem or put their hands over their heart. And again, I think that speaks to how great America is.”
“Yes, America has had its downfalls and pitfalls, but it hasn’t done everything wrong. We wouldn’t be where we are today if America did everything wrong,” emphasized the Orlando Magic forward during his conversation with Kelly.
Isaac stressed the importance of having pride in one’s country and roots, stating, “We should understand that being Americans binds us together.”
Mixed Reactions to the Women’s Soccer Team Protest
In addition to Isaac and Kelly’s responses, the women’s soccer team‘s protest has garnered mixed reviews.
A columnist in Kansas argued that the “USA women’s soccer team is at the World Cup to win, not sing for Megyn Kelly and Nikki Haley.”
Furthermore, a former college soccer star criticized the team in an op-ed for disregarding ”one of the unspoken norms of soccer on the world stage: National teams sing their national anthems at major international tournaments.”
