Pixar’s Elemental disappoints at box office as Disney introduces first nonbinary character.

Pixar’s Elemental: A Groundbreaking Film with a Disappointing Debut

Pixar’s highly anticipated film, Elemental, which introduces Disney’s first nonbinary character, has unfortunately stumbled in its opening weekend at the box office.

The film managed to gross a mere $29.5 million, marking it as the worst start for a Pixar production since the iconic Toy Story hit theaters back in 1995.

An Animated Adventure that Tackles Racism and Xenophobia

Elemental takes audiences on a captivating journey that explores the power of opposites attracting. Critics have been quick to praise the film’s stunning CGI animation and its thought-provoking exploration of racism and xenophobia.

The story revolves around Ember Lumen, a fiery element voiced by the talented Leah Lewis, and Wade Ripple, a water element brought to life by the incredible Mamoudou Athie. Together, they embark on a mission to save Ember’s family store. Adding depth to the narrative is Wade’s younger sibling, Lake, a nonbinary character voiced by the talented Ava Hauser.

“While Lake may not be the central protagonist, their presence is a significant triumph for nonbinary representation,” raves the LGBTQ advocacy site, Pink News, celebrating the film’s inclusivity.

With a 64% rating from Rotten Tomatoes’ top critics, Elemental has garnered mixed reviews.

“Depending on its final position, this could potentially be Pixar’s lowest-earning opening weekend since Toy Story’s $29 million debut in 1995,” warns another film review. “It’s worth noting that Toy Story’s box office figures have not been adjusted for inflation, making Elemental’s underwhelming performance even more disheartening.”

Reportedly, Elemental had a production budget of $200 million, with an additional $100 million allocated for marketing.
