Former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called out President Donald Trump on Tuesday by citing the 25th Amendment when responding to Trump’s Truth Social post threatening strikes in Iran.
Greene attacked Trump’s threat of violence against Iran, writing on X: “25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.”
The 25th Amendment outlines procedures for transferring presidential power and allows for removal if a president is unable to perform the duties of the office. It was last used in November 2021, when then-President Joe Biden handed power to Vice President Kamala Harris for 85 minutes while he underwent a routine colonoscopy.
In a Truth Social post Tuesday morning, Trump wrote, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” He continued, “We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
Shortly before the president’s Truth Social posts, U.S. forces conducted airstrikes on Iran’s Kharg Island. Tonight marks the deadline he has set for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or risk additional action.
Greene, once a staunch Trump supporter, became increasingly critical of him and ultimately announced her resignation from office in November 2025.
The two have a complex history. Trump denounced Greene shortly before she announced her resignation. Trump accused her of disloyalty, while Greene claimed Trump was only mad about her support of the bill to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Greene blamed Trump for death threats against her after their public falling out.
