More than 1 in 5 Trump 2024 voters say deportations are too ‘aggressive’
A recent poll indicates that some Trump voters are dissatisfied with the Biden management’s handling of illegal immigration, especially regarding deportation efforts, halfway through Trump’s mass deportation campaign. This shift in voter sentiment could pose challenges for Republicans ahead of the 2024 midterm elections and may cause the Trump administration to adopt a more cautious approach on immigration enforcement before November. The poll, conducted by Politico with 2,005 U.S. adults, found that opinions are divided among Trump supporters: about half believe deportations are managed appropriately, while important portions feel the campaign is either too aggressive or not aggressive enough. Specifically, 22% of all voters think the deportation efforts are too intense, 24% feel they are insufficiently aggressive, and onyl 50% approve of the current level. Among non-MAGA Trump supporters, more disapprove of the deportation approach, whereas among MAGA supporters, a notable 44% express dissatisfaction with the level of deportation actions, including 15% who believe they have gone too far.
Some voters who picked President Donald Trump in the 2024 election have soured on the White House’s approach to illegal immigration a year and a half into his mass deportation operation, according to a new poll.
The less-than-glowing assessment from Trump’s base could spell trouble for Republicans less than three months ahead of the midterm elections, and it could lead the Trump administration to stay quieter on immigration enforcement and border security ahead of November.
