ICE hopes the liability insurance would encourage additional police departments to partner with the federal government, knowing that their officers could be covered with up to $500,000 in personal liability protection, according to the planning document.
Fees are most often incurred by police after being accused of misconduct, such as unnecessary use of force. Liability costs generally include legal fees, settlements, and judgments.
