Windsurfer Declared Second Fatality from Hurricane Idalia in Florida
TITUSVILLE, Fla.—In a tragic turn of events, a windsurfer who went missing off Florida’s Space Coast during the landfall of Hurricane Idalia has been declared the state’s second death caused by the Category 3 storm, officials announced on Wednesday.
The 60-year-old man disappeared while windsurfing in the Banana River on August 30, the same day that Idalia unleashed its fury with powerful 125 mph (201 kph) winds across Florida’s remote Big Bend region, as reported by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Another death related to Idalia was confirmed in Gainesville, Florida, but authorities have not released any further details.
