Mexican president fires back at Blinken, denies cartels control any part of country

MexicanPresident Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador denied claims by Secretary of State Antony Blinken that drug cartels effectively control parts of Mexico.

Blinken said it was” fair to say” that certain regions of Mexico were under the control of drug cartels at a congressional hearing on Wednesday. According to a response from Lopez Obrador to the information on Friday, Blinken’s cases were untrue, the Associated Press reported.

” That is untrue. It’s untrue, he claimed. There is not a single place in the country’s authorities where officials are truly present.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that some organizations had managed to access Cofepris, the nation’s drug regulatory body.

” They even had representatives in Cofepris, people lobbying there ,” he claimed. He continued by saying that the situation had resulted in the charges against five authorities.

It appears that those who had infiltrated the business did so in order to permit the import of Chinese goods that produced fentanyl.

Lopez Obrador called Mexican authorities officials” liars” in response to a report from the U.S. State Department on Thursday that accused them of violating human rights.

He said that Blinken was a decent man who was” just doing his job ,” which gave the impression that he had somewhat backtracked on his charges.

Following the abduction of four American visitors by a drug gang, tensions in the United States and Mexico have recently increased. The travellers were killed, two of them.
