McCarthy previews path to victory Trump can take in Electoral College – Washington Examiner
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently outlined a potential strategy for Donald Trump to secure victory in the Electoral College during the upcoming presidential election. Speaking on Fox News’s *America’s Newsroom*, McCarthy emphasized that Trump has “more opportunities” to win electoral votes than Vice President Kamala Harris, who he believes faces a more challenging path. He highlighted key states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia as critical to Trump’s success. Additionally, McCarthy pointed out that current polling shows Harris lagging behind former candidates Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden at comparable stages in their campaigns. He suggested that if Trump can win Arizona, Nevada, and a district in Maine, it could significantly boost his chances in the Electoral College.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy argued Wednesday that former President Donald Trump has “more opportunities” to win the Electoral College this election cycle, detailing which states he can focus on to do this.
McCarthy made his argument as the presidential election is less than two months away, with Vice President Kamala Harris 1 point behind where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in some polling from mid-September 2016. The former speaker also noted that Harris is about 5 points behind where then-candidate Joe Biden was in polling from mid-September 2020.
“I still believe it just comes down to Pennsylvania and Georgia,” McCarthy said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “There are more opportunities for President Trump to win the electoral vote than there are for Kamala Harris. She has a harder time. She’s got to play more defense than he does.”
One path Trump could take to win the Electoral College is by winning Arizona, Nevada, and one of Maine’s districts while winning the state’s popular vote, giving him three of Maine’s four electoral votes. By doing this, McCarthy explained, Trump and Harris would both receive 269 votes in the Electoral College, leaving it up to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to vote for the next president.
McCarthy further explained that by winning Maine’s popular vote, Trump would not need Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Wisconsin to beat Harris, all three of which are hotly contested states.
McCarthy also argued the Republican Party could cut into the Democratic Party’s bid on early voters and that Republican voters “need to hear” about early voting. He encouraged voters not to wait until Election Day and instead “bank” their votes.
Trump has no campaign events scheduled for Maine, with his next rally set for Wednesday night in New York. Afterward, he will attend a rally in North Carolina on Saturday and another in Pennsylvania on Monday.
