Mattel brings ‘Bob the Builder’ to the big screen

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Get ready for an exciting new project from the renowned toy company, Mattel (MAT.O). They are venturing into the world of animated theatrical movies with their latest creation, “Bob the Builder.”
The movie features the talented actor Anthony Ramos, known for his role in “In the Heights,” as the voice of Roberto, also known as “Bob.” In this exciting adventure, Bob travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction job. Along the way, he encounters various challenges and discovers the true essence of building while immersing himself in the vibrant Caribbean-Latin culture.
Mattel has enlisted the Colombian-American writer Felipe Vargas to collaborate with Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico from the animation studio ShadowMachine to develop the captivating story.
“Bob the Builder” is just one of the many exciting projects Mattel has in store. Following the tremendous success of the Warner Bros’ “Barbie” movie, which grossed over $1.4 billion at the box office, Mattel has announced upcoming ventures such as the Netflix animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” and a live-action “Polly Pocket” film directed by Lena Dunham, the creator of “Girls,” based on the beloved 1980s dolls by Mattel.
But that’s not all! Mattel Films is also working on projects inspired by other popular toy lines, including American Girl, Hot Wheels, Magic Ball, Barney, and more.
The “Bob the Builder” movie draws inspiration from the beloved British animated children’s series of the same name, created by Keith Chapman, the writer behind “PAW Patrol.” The TV show, which ran for 12 seasons, revolved around the adventures of Bob the contractor and his friends.
In 2011, Mattel acquired Hit Entertainment, the company that owned the rights to “Bob the Builder,” “Thomas & Friends,” and other preschool properties, for a whopping $680 million.
Robbie Brenner, the president of Mattel Films, expressed her hope that this project would introduce the beloved character to new audiences.
