Lori Lightfoot Claims Only Reason Nobody Likes Her Is Because She’s Black

Lori Lightfoot, Chicago Mayor, was criticised for blaming her poor reelection prospects on the fact that she is a black woman at power.

“I’m a Black woman and, let’s not forget, some folks frankly don’t support us in leadership roles,” Lightfoot Telled The New Yorker.

Ray Stevens, a local radio host, summarized Lightfoot’s impending fate simply by saying, “I think Lori’s time is up.”

“Personally, I don’t [think she can pull off this race], but I’ve been wrong before as the polls have in the past,” He said it earlier in the segment.

Stevens said that race boils down to key issues, such as crime, and not skin colour or gender.

“Chicago has a rampant crime problem, and not only is it in Chicago, but its has reached the collar counties… crime, crime is going to be the issue in this election and, personally, what I’m hearing from my constituents, from listeners, is that it will come down to [Paul] Vallas [or] Brandon Johnson.”

Recent polls show that Lightfoot trailed Vallas by 19 and Johnson by two points, respectively.

“I think those are your two guys,” Stevens continued.

“There may be a surprise, but I think the rhetoric we just talked about, what you just talked about is what will hurt Lori Lightfoot – crime, and she just doesn’t come across as somebody that cares about people.”

Stevens pointed out that Chicago’s most powerful leaders are people of color. “very diverse.”

“I don’t think it comes down to race. There are people living in these communities that just want to be safe,” He stated.

However, many voters are fed up of rising crime rates and identity politics. They are calling for a fresh start.

Lori Lightfoot’s reelection prospects are grim, not because she is a black woman in power but because her city has been ravaged.

If Lightfoot does not get one of the top vote-getters Tuesday’s primary, it could be her first loss in an election for Chicago mayor in more than thirty years.

“She’s an underdog this time around for different reasons than she was an underdog last time,” Victor Reyes, a long-standing political operative, stated the above.

“Last time, she was an unknown and she was the counter to the traditional political establishment folks, and the vote split was happening in a different way back then. And this time, she’s like the target of everybody’s ire, right?” Reyes continued.

“She’s getting attacked from the left; she’s getting attacked from the right. And she doesn’t have any ground footing with any significant solid base of votes.”
