Laura Hollis: The Warnings Are Everywhere; We Ignore Them at Our Peril

Human history is full of ideologies that have resulted in oppression, war, dictatorial regimes rising, destruction of economies, and the deaths millions. There were also those who attempted to warn the public. They were ignored, silenced, or even removed.

This same trend is also evident in the United States of America and other western countries. These warning signs of imminent disaster are visible in many cultural institutions and are often ignored.

These warnings fall under four categories.

The first lies in deception: The powerful lie of increasing severity without any compunction or consequences.

Human failure combined with too many power is the root problem. The power to force other people to accept flawed ideologies. The power to destroy opposition and banish alternative options. The power to spread lies. The power to silence and to punish those who try to give the truth to the public.

There is only one solution to this mess. It is to take back power from those institutions that have too much: the government, corporations, academia and the media.

These warning signs are obvious. We ignore them at all costs.
