Knicks implement ‘strict’ security measures with Trump in town for Finals
The New York Knicks are increasing security ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden against the San Antonio Spurs.They announced a strict no-bag policy for Monday’s game, asked fans to bring only essential personal items, and said enhanced, TSA-style screening will be used at entry.
The team also encouraged fans to arrive at least two hours early and noted that no storage woudl be available at the arena. Trump, a lifelong Knicks fan, is attending as the Knicks aim for their first championship since 1973, after winning the first two games in the series. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Trump is welcome to attend, pointing to the president’s longtime involvement and interest in the team.
The New York Knicks announced increased security efforts ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to the Big Apple for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the hometown Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks said in a statement on Saturday that a no-bag policy will be in effect for Monday’s game and asked fans to limit the number of personal items they bring.

“As we move closer to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service want to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all ticket holders by sharing important security procedures that will be in place,” the Knicks posted on X.
“A strict no-bag policy will be in effect, and fans should make every effort to limit personal items to an absolute minimum. Fans should expect enhanced security measures when entering Madison Square Garden, including TSA-style screening procedures. Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive at least two hours before tip-off to allow additional time for screening and entry,” the statement continued before linking to the Secret Service’s list of prohibited items and noting no storage would be provided at Madison Square Garden.
Trump’s visit to New York comes as the Knicks look to secure their first NBA championship since 1973 after taking the first two games in the best-of-seven series against the Spurs. The president is a longtime Knicks fan and praised the team’s owner last week.
“I’ve been a Knick fan for a long time, and I’m also a Jim Dolan fan,” Trump told reporters. “He’s a nice guy, OK? He’s spent a long time wanting to win, and he’s a competitive guy, and he’s got a team that’s amazing.”
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver assured reporters last week that “of course” Trump was “welcome” to attend.

“Before he ever ran for office, he was a big Knicks fan,” Silver said. “I’ve been with the league for a long time. I was there at many Knicks games with him in the old days. He attended many of our drafts when they used to take place at Madison Square Garden, and he actually appeared in one of our ‘I love this Game’ spots when I was running NBA Entertainment years ago.”
“I think sports in particular is something where we can emphasize what we have in common,” Silver added, “not what pulls us apart.”
