Trump to Face $10 Million Lawsuit from E. Jean Carroll
Former President Donald Trump is facing another lawsuit from E. Jean Carroll, who has been seeking justice for the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of Trump in the 1990s. The lawsuit has been amended to allow Carroll to sue for $10 million in damages over remarks Trump made during a May CNN townhall.
U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan has ruled in favor of Carroll, despite Trump’s legal team arguing against her new request. The team claimed that since the jury had concluded Trump never raped her, the defamation case should be dismissed. However, the judge has given the U.S. Department of Justice a month to evaluate whether or not Trump could be substituted as the defendant. In turn, the substitution would end the new $10 million lawsuit proposed by Carroll, as the government cannot be sued for defamation.
