John Mayer Says He Doesn’t ‘Date That Much,’ Addresses Past ‘Womanizer’ Label

Singer John Mayer said he doesn’t “date that much” anymore and addressed his past “womanizer” label, shutting down the idea he was ever into something that wasn’t long-term.

During the 45-year-old’s appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, host Alex Cooper asked Mayer about his past relationships.

“Dating is no longer a codified activity for me, it doesn’t exist in a kind of… it’s not patterned anymore,” Mayer explained.

“I don’t really date — I don’t think that I have to, to be quite honest,” he added. “I quit drinking like six years ago, so I don’t have the liquid courage. I just have dry courage.”

The “Your Body Is A Wonderland” hitmaker previously dated several celebrities, including Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, and Katy Perry.

“I feel like I was made to believe growing up that if somebody liked me that was pretty much an accident,” Mayer shared. “And that should be capitalized on. And so I felt very deeply when somebody liked me. Very deeply.”

“‘I think, look, the elephant in the room is that I’m on a show [entertainment] that caters to women, and I have a couple of nameplates on me, like ‘Lothario’ and ‘womanizer,’ and stuff I think, look that is what that is,” he added, noting that maybe he had a “hand in it or something.”

“Every relationship I’ve ever been in was devoted to the idea that this could go the distance,” he continued. “My entire life, today included, if you told me that I could have a great two months with someone but it would end on the first day of the third month, I would not be interested. I’ve always sought potential for a long-term relationship.”

Mayer previously said that he decided to quit drinking alcohol after suffering from a hangover for nearly a week after attending Drake’s 30th birthday party. He said he got to the point where he didn’t want to make a “fool” of himself anymore or sacrifice his career.
