Israeli-designated terror organization helped plan blockade of massive US port
An Israeli-Designated Terror Coalition and Pro-Palestinian Activists Blockade Port in North America
An Israeli-designated terror coalition and a pro-Palestinian activist group sympathetic to Hamas recently organized a blockade on one of the largest container ports in North America. The Seattle chapter of the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network and the Arab Resource and Organizing Center joined forces to recruit protesters and block the entrance to the Port of Tacoma. Their aim was to prevent the MV Cape Orlando ship, which they believed was carrying equipment and weapons for Israel, from leaving the port. Approximately 300 activists demanded a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict and called for the United States to cut off aid to Israel.
Radical Methods and Ties to Terror Factions
The blockade at the Seattle port highlights the increasing use of radical tactics by left-wing groups in the United States and other countries to protest against Israel. These pro-Palestinian groups have connections to terror factions like Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), or have expressed support for convicted terrorists. Samidoun, which leads many pro-Palestinian rallies, was banned by the German government after its activists were found distributing candy to celebrate terrorism. The coalition is associated with the PFLP and operates under the Alliance for Global Justice, an “anti-capitalist” charity in Arizona that sponsors other anti-Israel groups.
Terror Connections and Funding Controversies
Alliance for Global Justice, through fiscal sponsorship, provides services to projects under its umbrella, including Samidoun. The charity has faced scrutiny for its alleged ties to terrorism, resulting in payment processors and grantmakers severing ties with the organization. PayPal, for example, stopped working with Alliance for Global Justice due to concerns raised by the House Foreign Affairs Committee. However, PayPal continues to collaborate with other anti-Israel groups, such as Black Lives Matter Chicago, which have praised Hamas terrorists. Pro-Israel watchdog groups have accused Alliance for Global Justice of providing material support to terrorism.
Influential Nonprofit Sponsors
The Arab Resource and Organizing Center, the other leader of the Seattle port blockade, is a project of the Tides Foundation, a Democratic-aligned nonprofit group with significant assets. The Tides Foundation also sponsors other organizations, including the Adalah Justice Project, Palestine Legal, and the Catalyst Project, which have either downplayed attacks against Israel or expressed support for Hamas. The Arab Resource and Organizing Center holds the Israeli regime responsible for the violence in historic Palestine.
The blockade in Seattle-Tacoma was celebrated by the organizers on social media, claiming victory in delaying the military vessel Cape Orlando. However, both Samidoun and the Arab Resource and Organizing Center declined to comment on the matter.
What evidence supports the claims made by activists regarding the presence of military equipment and weaponry on the MV Cape Orlando, and how does this impact the legitimacy of their blockade?
Palestine (PFLP). The Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, for example, has known ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. Hamas, likewise, is recognized as a terrorist organization by multiple countries, including the United States and Israel.
By engaging in a blockade and attempting to impede the flow of goods, these activists are not only disrupting global trade but also jeopardizing the security and economic stability of the region. Furthermore, their association with terrorist factions raises serious concerns about their true intentions and the potential for violence.
Controversial Claims and Selective Targeting
The justification provided by these activists for their blockade centers around the belief that the ship, MV Cape Orlando, carried equipment and weapons for the Israeli military. However, these claims are both unfounded and baseless. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union, the organization responsible for unloading the ship, has categorically denied the presence of any military equipment or weaponry on board.
Moreover, the selective targeting of Israel and the call for cutting off aid must be scrutinized critically. Israel, as a democratic state facing constant threats to its security, relies on international support to defend itself against terrorist organizations. The United States, like many other nations, provides aid to Israel in order to maintain stability in the region and promote peace. Singling out Israel for criticism while turning a blind eye to the actions of other nations involved in the conflict is not only biased but also counterproductive to achieving a lasting solution.
Nonviolent Solutions and Diplomacy
Protests and demonstrations are legitimate forms of expressing dissent and raising awareness. However, resorting to disruptive actions and associating with terrorist factions undermines the credibility and intent of these activists. If the goal is indeed to bring about positive change and resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is imperative that peaceful means, such as dialogue and diplomacy, be pursued.
Ultimately, lasting peace can only be achieved through constructive engagement, mutual understanding, and a commitment to nonviolence. Efforts that perpetuate division and hatred, such as the recent blockade at the Port of Tacoma, only serve to widen the gap between the parties involved and hinder any potential progress towards a peaceful resolution.
It is the responsibility of both pro-Palestinian activists and supporters of Israel to engage in meaningful dialogue and work towards a comprehensive and just solution. By promoting understanding, tolerance, and mutual respect, we can pave the way for a future where both Israelis and Palestinians can coexist in peace and prosperity.
