DeSantis criticizes Hunter Biden’s plea as unfair.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Slams Hunter Biden’s “Sweetheart Deal” with DOJ

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t hold back in his criticism of the agreement reached between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice. Describing it as a “sweetheart deal,” DeSantis expressed his frustration with what he sees as a pattern of Democrats receiving lenient consequences for their actions.

Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two charges related to tax evasion and has entered a pretrial agreement for illegally possessing a firearm while being a drug user. Republicans, including DeSantis, argue that this deal is yet another example of Democrats escaping harsh punishment for their misdeeds.

DeSantis and Trump: Two Tiers of Justice

As a potential presidential candidate for 2024, DeSantis echoed former President Donald Trump’s criticism of the justice system’s perceived double standards. DeSantis took to Twitter, stating, “Looks like Hunter received a sweetheart deal and is not facing any charges on the massive corruption allegations. If Hunter was not connected to the elite DC class, he would have been put in jail a long time ago.” DeSantis also shared a video clip where he argued that there are “two different sets of rules depending on whether you’re a member in good standing of elite society or not.”

Trump himself compared Hunter Biden’s legal troubles to a mere traffic ticket, expressing his frustration with what he sees as a broken system. He posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!”

Political Maneuvering and Criticizing Joe Biden

Both DeSantis and Trump are aware of the political opportunities presented by criticizing Hunter Biden. While they may have their own legal vulnerabilities, they can still target the Biden family to indirectly criticize President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

It remains to be seen how these criticisms will impact the political landscape leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
