Hunter Biden attends court-ordered deposition in Arkansas for investigation.

Hunter Biden Faces Court-Ordered Deposition in Child Support Battle

Hunter Biden made a highly anticipated appearance in an Arkansas courtroom on Friday for a court-ordered deposition regarding his finances. The deposition is part of an ongoing child support battle with the mother of one of his daughters, Lunden Roberts.

Judge Holly Meyer, who is presiding over the case, ruled in May that Biden and Roberts must sit for depositions in June. During the deposition, Biden will be required to answer questions about his income, including inquiries about his investments, art sales, and other relevant financial transactions.

A High-Stakes Battle

The child at the center of the dispute, Navy Roberts, was born in Arkansas in August 2018. She was conceived during Hunter Biden’s relationship with Hallie Biden, his late brother Beau Biden’s widow. Despite this, President Joe Biden has not publicly acknowledged his granddaughter’s existence.

Clinton Lancaster, Roberts’ lawyer, informed the Arkansas court that the deposition of Hunter Biden would take place on Friday at 9 a.m. in a secure location in downtown Little Rock. Roberts herself had already been deposed earlier in the week at the same building.

The Arkansas judge has also ordered Biden to appear in person in July to face potential contempt proceedings and even jail time for allegedly concealing his finances during the child support battle.

Controversial Allegations

This latest deposition comes in the wake of allegations made by a confidential FBI informant. The informant claimed that Mykola Zlochevsky, the Ukrainian owner of Burisma, funneled $5 million to Joe Biden and $5 million to Hunter Biden in an alleged bribery scheme.

Furthermore, FBI Director Christopher Wray allowed members of the GOP-led House Oversight Committee to review an FD-1023 form containing the informant’s allegations. Senator Chuck Grassley also revealed a less redacted version of the form, which suggested that Zlochevsky had 17 recordings of conversations with Joe and Hunter Biden as an “insurance policy.”

Financial Implications

Hunter Biden’s finances are crucial to the reopened paternity case, as he seeks to lower his monthly payments of $20,000 to Roberts. Additionally, Biden’s business partner and fellow Burisma board member, Devon Archer, has yet to meet the initial subpoena deadline to appear before the House Oversight Committee.

Following the 2020 election, Biden disclosed that he was under federal investigation for his taxes. Republicans have long alleged that his business dealings in Ukraine and China may involve crimes related to foreign lobbying or money laundering. Recent reports suggest that the focus of the investigation may have shifted to potential tax fraud and lying on a federal gun form.

IRS whistleblowers have also come forward, claiming that the investigation has been mishandled and politicized.

A Complex Legal Battle

The paternity case initially saw Biden denying his paternity and any recollection of meeting Roberts. However, DNA tests confirmed his biological relationship with the child. In 2020, Biden settled with Roberts for $2.5 million, but the case was later reopened, leading to the ongoing court battle in Arkansas.

Judge Meyer issued an order in June requiring Biden to appear in court on July 10 to explain why he should not be held in contempt for failing to comply with the May order to provide information on his finances.

Roberts’ lawyer, Clinton Lancaster, filed a motion for sanctions and contempt, arguing that Biden consistently disregards court orders and attempts to conceal his income and assets.

The Road Ahead

Although Biden appeared in court in May, he did not speak. A trial to determine whether his child support payments can be adjusted is scheduled for July.

Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, informed the court in May that he is currently paying $20,000 per month in child support. Lowell also stated that Biden has already paid $750,000 in child support to date.
